Himachal Pradesh: Major anti-drug action, raid at 145 locations in single day

Himachal Pradesh Police has launched a major crackdown against drug abuse. On Sunday, in the second phase of the anti-drug operation, police raided several locations. The operation was conducted by joint teams of the State Intelligence Department, the Armed Forces, and the district police, based on intelligence.

DGP Ashok Tiwari stated that 145 locations were searched during the operation, and 406 grams of hashish, 19.236 grams of chitta (heroin), 124 grams of poppy husk, and 465,100 milliliters of illicit liquor were recovered.

Six cases were registered under the NDPS Act and four under the Excise Act. Drug detection kits were used during the operation. The entire process of searches, seizures, and arrests was videotaped. Police clarified that all actions were taken under the NDPS Act, the BNSS, the Arms Act, and other relevant legal provisions.

DGP Ashok Tiwari stated that under the guidance of the state government, this campaign to achieve a drug-free Himachal will continue with a more scientific, aggressive, and zero-tolerance policy. He appealed to the citizens of the state, especially the youth, to immediately report any drug-related activity to 112 or the nearest police station. The informant’s identity will be kept confidential. Appealing to the public, the DGP urged them to join the campaign against drug abuse.

Police take action against 62 drug smugglers and detain them under the NDPS Act.
Approximately 62 major drug smugglers have been detained under the NDPS Act in Himachal Pradesh so far. Through financial investigations, the police have frozen approximately 48 crore rupees worth of illegal movable and immovable assets acquired through the drug trade. Hotspot areas like Solan, Dehra, Baddi, and Nurpur have recorded the highest number of arrests and detentions. This police campaign has created panic among the drug mafia.
