Rain and Snowfall Alert in Himachal Pradesh as Western Disturbance Turns Active

Strong Western Disturbance Becomes Active

According to the Meteorological Department, a strong Western Disturbance is becoming active in the state this afternoon. Its effects will be felt for the next four days. Although this morning started with pleasant sunshine, rain and snow will begin tonight, and the weather will remain poor throughout the state tomorrow.

During this period, higher mountains will experience snowfall, while lower and mid-altitude areas will experience moderate rainfall. Rain and snowfall will also occur in higher elevations on February 2 and 3. The weather will clear up starting February 4.

Yellow Alert Issued for All 12 Districts

The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms in all 12 districts for tomorrow. Strong winds with speeds of up to 50 to 60 kilometers per hour will blow across the state. Snowstorms are also possible in the higher mountains. Locals, including tourists, have been advised to avoid traveling to higher altitudes during this period.

Tabo’s mercury dropped to minus 10.2 degrees.

A slight rise in daytime temperatures in lower and mid-altitude areas over the past two days has brought some relief from the cold. However, the higher elevations remain reeling. The minimum temperature in Tabo, Lahaul-Spiti, dropped to minus 10.2 degrees Celsius and in Kukumsari to minus 6.3 degrees Celsius.

Good News for Farmers, Gardeners and Tourism

It’s worth noting that the state experienced a drought from October 12th until January 22nd. During this period, rainfall was 96 percent below normal. However, during the past week, rainfall has exceeded normal by 270 percent.
