Heavy Rains Lash Himachal: Cloudburst in Mandi damages home, major highways blocked, dams releasing water

Shimla, August 5: Heavy rains have been falling in many parts of Himachal Pradesh since last night. A 3 room house was damaged due to cloudburst in Katwani Nala of Chachiot in Mandi at 6 am. The family members fled and saved their lives. But all their belongings were washed away in the flood.

151 mm rainfall was recorded in Mandi during 24 hours. Due to this, rivers and streams are overflowing. Landslides are happening at many places. The Chandigarh-Manali four lane is blocked near 4 mile, 9 mile and Kainchimod of Mandi.

Meanwhile, the Kol Dam management released water from the dam at 8:45 am in view of the inflow of water. After releasing the water, the water level of Sutlej has increased by 4-5 meters. In view of this, the people of Punjab have also been advised to remain alert and not go to the river bank.

Water will be released from Pandoh Dam 

After Kol Dam, water will also be released from Pandoh, built on Beas river in some time. In view of this, people in both Himachal and Punjab states have been asked to be cautious.

The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rain in many areas of three districts Una, Bilaspur and Kangra today (Tuesday). An orange alert for rain has been issued in these districts. There is a yellow alert in Hamirpur, Mandi and Sirmaur districts.

Chances of rain till August 8

There is no hope of relief from rain in the state till August 8. The only relief is that the monsoon will weaken a bit from tomorrow as compared to today. But, it will continue to rain in different parts of the state.

According to the Meteorological Department, there is no hope of relief from rain till August 20. There is a forecast of more than normal rain throughout the month of August.
