Himachal Pradesh Raises Tourist Vehicle Entry Fees; New Rates Effective April 1, 2026

New Delhi: Visiting Himachal Pradesh is about to get more expensive. The state government has significantly increased the entry fees for vehicles coming from outside states. The new rates will be effective from April 1, 2026.

The entry fee for private cars, jeeps, vans, and light motor vehicles has been increased from ₹70 to ₹170, an increase of ₹100. The fee for 12+1 seater passenger vehicles has been increased from ₹110 to ₹130.

The entry fee for mini buses (32 seater) has been increased from ₹180 to ₹320, while the fee for commercial buses has been increased from ₹320 to ₹600. The entry fee for tractors has been increased from ₹70 to ₹100. However, the fee for double-axle buses and trucks has remained unchanged at ₹570.

Impact on Goods and Construction Vehicles

The entry fee for large goods vehicles has been increased from ₹720 to ₹900. The fee for machinery used in construction work has been increased from ₹570 to ₹800.

The entry fee for construction machinery has been fixed at ₹800.

Notification under the Himachal Pradesh Tolls Act

The new rates have been notified under the Himachal Pradesh Tolls Act, 1975. This increase will impact not only tourists but also freight rates, which could increase travel and transportation costs.

The government says this move will increase revenue and streamline the toll system.

FASTag mandatory, auction to be held online

Under the new toll barrier policy, entry fees will be collected at the barrier itself, and FASTag has been made mandatory. Auctions for toll barriers will now be conducted online.

A committee will be formed at the district level, headed by the District Magistrate, to monitor operations. Contractors have been instructed to implement necessary arrangements, including FASTag, within 15 days.

Concerns in the Tourism Industry

Tourism businesses have expressed concern over the increase in entry fees. Shimla hoteliers and taxi operators say this will directly impact tourists and could impact tourism.

Himachal Pradesh receives a large number of tourists annually from states like Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Gujarat, and Rajasthan. After the new rates come into effect, all vehicles coming from outside states will have to pay additional fees.
