Severe Cold Hits Himachal Pradesh: Kullu, Lahaul-Spiti, and Plains Experience Temperature Drop

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu and Lahaul-Spiti districts will experience severe cold over the next week. According to the Meteorological Center, Shimla, minimum temperatures in many towns in these two districts will drop 4 to 6 degrees below normal. Night temperatures will also remain below normal in other cities across the state.

Meanwhile, in the past 24 hours, temperatures in 27 cities across the state have dropped below 10 degrees Celsius, while temperatures in 12 cities have dropped below 5 degrees Celsius and in three cities, they have dropped below zero. Tabo in Lahaul Spiti has recorded a low of minus 5.3 degrees Celsius. The state’s average minimum temperature has also dropped 2.1 degrees below normal.

Kukumsari has dropped to minus-3.1 degrees and Keylong to minus-3.3 degrees.

Nahan’s temperature drops the most

Nahan recorded the largest drop in minimum temperature, at 5.1 degrees Celsius, dropping to 8.9 degrees Celsius. Palampur’s minimum temperature also dropped 4.5 degrees below normal, settling at 5.5 degrees Celsius.

Cold increased in the plains

The cold has increased in the higher elevations of the state as well as the plains. Consequently, Kangra, Mandi, Hamirpur, and Solan are experiencing colder temperatures than Shimla. Shimla recorded a minimum temperature of 8.4 degrees Celsius, while Solan’s fell to 3.2 degrees, Manali’s to 1.9 degrees, Sundernagar’s to 4.6 degrees, Bhuntar’s to 2.8 degrees, Una’s to 8.5 degrees, Palampur’s to 5.5 degrees, Kangra’s to 7.4 degrees, Mandi’s to 6.2 degrees, and Hamirpur’s to 5.3 degrees.

Fog engulfs Mandi-Bilaspur

Meanwhile, fog enveloped the Balh Valley in Mandi district and the areas around the Bhakra Dam in Bilaspur this morning, reducing visibility to 100 meters by 10 a.m.

The weather in the state will remain clear for the next six days. There is no possibility of rain or snowfall during this period. Consequently, daytime temperatures will remain around normal.
