Landslide Near Edward School in Shimla, Circular Road Closed Amid Heavy Rain

Shimla: The devastation caused by rain in Himachal Pradesh continues unabated. A cloudburst late Thursday night in Kinnaur’s Thach village caused significant damage. A sudden flood in a drain swept away two vehicles and farmland. As the situation worsened, people fled their homes overnight to safety. Many houses remain in danger.

Meanwhile, a landslide occurred near Edward School in Shimla at around 1 a.m. on Thursday night. The landslide has posed a threat to a multi-story building. Following this incident, Circular Road, known as Shimla’s lifeline, has been completely closed to traffic. For safety reasons, the Shimla DC has declared a holiday for today and tomorrow at Edward School.

Last evening, a three-story house in the Karevathi Panchayat of Kumarsain, Shimla, collapsed due to a landslide. Kangra and Hamirpur also experienced heavy rain throughout the night.

According to the Meteorological Department, the monsoon is expected to weaken starting today. However, the weather remains poor in most areas, including Shimla. Light drizzle is possible for the next five days, but no heavy rain alert has been issued.

This monsoon season saw 46 percent more rainfall.

According to the Meteorological Department, this monsoon season (June 1 to September 18) has received 46 percent more rainfall than normal. Normal rainfall during this period is 698.3 mm, but this time 1019.4 mm of rain has fallen. Mandi recorded the highest rainfall of 1901.2 mm.
