Western Disturbance Weakens in Himachal, December Temperatures Soar Across State

Shimla: Due to the weakening of the Western Disturbance and lack of rain in Himachal Pradesh, the temperature has increased sharply. As a result, the cold has subsided in most parts of the state.

Solan records its hottest day of December

On Monday, Solan recorded its hottest day of December so far. The maximum temperature here touched 28.5 degrees Celsius, which is 7.8 degrees above normal. The previous record temperature for Solan in December was 28.0 degrees Celsius on December 21, 2016.

Shimla records second highest temperature

The capital Shimla recorded a maximum temperature of 21.6 degrees Celsius on Monday, which is 7.6 degrees above normal. The highest temperature ever recorded in Shimla in December was 22.3 degrees Celsius on December 21, 2016.

Night temperatures also increased significantly

Shimla recorded a minimum temperature of 11.4 degrees Celsius, which is 5.7 degrees above normal. Manali and Bhuntar also recorded a night temperature increase of more than 6 degrees.

Above normal temperatures across the state

The average maximum temperature of the state remained about 3.9 to 4 degrees above normal, while the minimum temperature increased by 1.5 degrees. Kalpa recorded a maximum temperature of 16.9 degrees Celsius, which is 8 degrees above normal.

Kufri and Narkanda also felt severe cold

The night temperatures in the tourist destinations of Kufri and Narkanda, which usually experience sub-zero temperatures in the third week of December, were unusually high this time. The minimum temperature in Kufri was 10.6 degrees Celsius and in Narkanda 8.1 degrees Celsius.

Fog brings mild cold to plains

Wherever there is fog, mild cold is being felt in the morning and evening. However, the day temperature is continuously increasing. According to the Meteorological Department, fog will continue in the plains until there is significant rain and snowfall in the mountains.

No rain for 15 days, raising concerns

The state has recorded 100% less rainfall in the last 15 days of December, meaning not a single drop of rain fell. This has raised concerns about the water level and apple orchards.

Light snowfall expected in high-altitude areas on December 20-21

However, giving hope of relief, the Meteorological Department has predicted light rain and snowfall in high-altitude areas of the state on December 20 and 21.
