Himachal Pradesh Faces Dry December, Light Snowfall Likely in Higher Reaches

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh has not received a single drop of rain so far in December. The state has recorded 10 percent less rainfall than normal. According to the Meteorological Center, Shimla, light rain and snowfall may occur in the higher elevations of the state today (Sunday) and Tuesday (December 22). However, the weather will remain dry in the plains and mid-mountain areas. After this, the cold is expected to intensify across the state.

According to meteorologists, a weak western disturbance is active. Its partial effect may bring light rain or snowfall to the higher reaches of Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, and Lahaul-Spiti districts. Most areas, including Shimla, will remain partly cloudy. The weather is expected to clear again after December 23rd.

There was no rain in December

The state has seen no rain or snowfall for the past several days. So far, all districts have recorded zero rainfall in December, which is 100 percent below normal. There is no possibility of widespread rain or snowfall next week either.

According to the Meteorological Department, no significant change in minimum temperatures is expected at this time. Over the past 24 hours, minimum temperatures were recorded above normal. However, night temperatures in higher altitude areas may drop by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius.

Temperatures are expected to drop for the next four days

The maximum temperature is expected to drop by 3 to 7 degrees Celsius over the next four to five days. Kukumseri was the coldest place in the state, recording a minimum temperature of minus 5.7 degrees Celsius. Solan recorded a maximum temperature of 24.5 degrees Celsius.

The IMD has forecast dense fog in the morning and late night in parts of Bilaspur (Bhakra Dam area) and Mandi between December 21st and 24th. Drivers have been advised to exercise caution. Light snowfall is expected in higher elevations, while dry and cold weather will prevail in the plains.
