Himachal Pradesh to Witness Clear Weather, Snowfall Likely in Higher Reaches

The weather in Himachal Pradesh is expected to remain largely clear and dry from today, with bright sunshine forecast for the plains and mid-hill regions. However, cold conditions will continue during the morning and night hours, and fog may appear in some areas.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a Western Disturbance may become active from February 16, potentially bringing snowfall to some higher-altitude areas on February 17 and 18.

No Major Temperature Change Expected for Now

The IMD has stated that there will be no significant change in maximum and minimum temperatures over the next three to four days.

Light rain and snowfall are likely at isolated places in high mountain regions on February 17 and 18. This change could lead to a further dip in temperatures in hilly areas, while lower and mid-altitude regions are expected to remain mostly dry.

Over the past 24 hours, weather conditions across the state remained dry. Day temperatures were recorded around 2 to 3 degrees Celsius above normal in most areas, while minimum temperatures stayed close to normal.

Dense Fog in Mandi, Dry Conditions Elsewhere

Dense fog was observed in parts of Mandi district, though no rainfall or snowfall was reported anywhere in the state during the last 24 hours.

Meteorological data indicates that maximum temperatures were 2 to 3 degrees Celsius above average in many regions.

Temperatures Dip to Minus 8°C in High Hills

Minimum temperatures ranged between:

• -8°C to 0°C in high-altitude areas

• 3°C to 10°C in mid-hill regions

• 5°C to 12°C in plains

Kukumseri recorded the lowest minimum temperature at -7.6°C, while Una recorded the highest maximum temperature at 27.8°C in the state.

Western Disturbance May Change Weather from Feb 16

The Meteorological Department stated that the influence of westerly winds is currently prevailing. However, after February 16, a fresh Western Disturbance may impact northwest India, with its effects expected to be felt mainly in the higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh.

Snowfall is possible in some high-altitude areas on February 17 and 18, which could further intensify cold conditions.
