Himachal Pradesh Weather Update: Light Snowfall Expected from Jan 6, Fog and Cold Grip State

Shimla: The weather in Himachal Pradesh will change again on January 6th. Light rain and snowfall is expected in higher elevations on this day. However, clear weather will persist until January 5th. However, Shimla has been slightly cloudy since morning. Meanwhile, night temperatures in 16 cities have dropped below 5 degrees Celsius.

In particular, the minimum temperature in Kukumsari in Lahaul-Spiti dropped to minus 7.0 degrees Celsius, Tabo to minus 6.4 degrees Celsius, and Kalpa to minus 2.2 degrees Celsius. Temperatures dropped to 1.5 degrees in Bhuntar, Kullu, 1.7 degrees in Solan, 0.2 degrees in Manali, 0.4 degrees in Narkanda, 0.6 degrees in Reckong Peo, and 0.8 degrees in Seobagh.

There will be 55% less rainfall than normal between January and March.

According to the Meteorological Department, the state receives a normal rainfall of 184.3 mm between January and March. However, this year, rainfall and snowfall will be 55 percent less than normal. This could directly impact snowfall, water sources, and Rabi crops. This will also impact the tourism business.

The months of November and December have already been dry. Rainfall in November was 96 percent below normal, and in December, it was 99 percent below normal. Drought-like conditions are now expected in January, February, and March as well.

Temperatures will be higher than normal in January

However, there is a 35 to 45 percent chance of normal rainfall in Lahaul-Spiti district and parts of adjacent Kinnaur. The temperature forecast states that both minimum and maximum temperatures are expected to be above normal in January 2026. This will likely reduce the extreme cold in January this winter season.

Fog warning in 5 districts from tomorrow

A dense fog warning has been issued for Una, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Kangra, and Mandi districts from tomorrow until January 5. Visibility could drop to 50 meters in many areas from midnight until 10 a.m.

Visibility dropped to 50 meters this morning in many areas of Kangra and Sundernagar in Mandi. Light fog also enveloped Mandi and Paonta Sahib in the morning.
