Himachal Weather: Temperature Rises Sharply, Rain Likely from March 10

Ahead of the weather change, temperatures in Himachal Pradesh have seen a sharp rise. Maximum temperatures in many cities across the state have risen by up to 14 degrees Celsius above normal. Kalpa recorded the highest maximum temperature of 13.4 degrees Celsius, reaching 22.6 degrees Celsius.

Although Kalpa’s record temperature is 24.4 degrees Celsius, set on March 20, 2010. However, Kalpa’s maximum temperature in the first week of March has never reached 22.6 degrees Celsius. This has led to April-like heat in Kalpa during the first week of March.

Shimla’s maximum temperature also rose 8.9 degrees above normal to 24.1 degrees Celsius. Shimla has never recorded such high temperatures in the first week of March. However, Shimla’s March record temperature is 27.2 degrees Celsius, set on March 27, 2004.

Manali’s maximum temperature is 9.6 degrees above normal.

The maximum temperature in Manali also reached 24.0 degrees Celsius, 9.6 degrees above normal. Temperatures in other cities also saw a similar rise. Seven cities in the state recorded maximum temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius. Sundernagar and Neri recorded the highest temperatures of 32.2 degrees Celsius in the past 24 hours, making Wednesday the hottest day of the season.

According to the Meteorological Department, the weather is set to change in two days. A fresh Western Disturbance (WD) is becoming active in the state from March 7th. Its effects will last for the next four days. The WD will be weak on March 7th and 8th. During these two days, the weather will remain poor only in the higher elevations of Lahaul Spiti, Kinnaur, Chamba, and Kullu.

Chances of rain in the entire state on March 10

The WD will be slightly stronger on March 9th and 10th. Its effects will be particularly visible on March 10th across most parts of the state. During this time, light snowfall is expected in higher elevations and light rain in other areas. Temperatures will drop slightly after this time.

The state’s farmers, gardeners, and tourism businesses have been waiting for rain and snowfall for a long time. Most parts of the state received significant rainfall and snowfall on January 23rd and 28th. However, there has been little to no rainfall in February. This has led to drought-like conditions.
