Western Disturbance to Bring Rain and Snowfall in Himachal Pradesh for Six Days

Shimla: The weather in Himachal Pradesh is set to change today. According to the Meteorological Department, rain and snowfall are expected due to the activation of a Western Disturbance. The state will experience rain and snowfall for the next six days, increasing the cold.

Rain and Snowfall Forecast from January 16 to 18

According to the Meteorological Department, rain and snowfall will occur in high and medium-altitude areas of the state from January 16th to 18th. Snowfall is expected in the upper reaches of Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, Chamba, Kangra, and Kullu. The weather will remain clear in the lower areas during this period.

Western Disturbance to Intensify on January 19–20

The western disturbance will be more active on January 19th and 20th. Rain and snowfall are expected throughout the state during these two days. Rain may fall in lower areas while snow may fall in higher elevations.

Fresh Spell Expected on January 21

Following this, rain and snowfall are again forecast for higher and medium elevation areas on January 21st.

Himachal Pradesh has been facing a dry spell for three and a half months.

It’s worth noting that the state has been experiencing drought-like conditions for the past three and a half months. According to the Meteorological Department, November saw 96 percent less rainfall than normal, while December saw a 99 percent decrease, and January has seen 91 percent less rainfall than normal so far.

Due to the prolonged absence of rain and snowfall, the water levels of the state’s water sources, rivers, and lakes have begun to decline. This has already affected apple and other cash crops.

Below normal rainfall in the third week

According to the Meteorological Department, the weather will clear up from January 22. Below-normal rainfall is also forecast for the third and last week of January.
