In Himachal Pradesh, the process of linking ration cards with electricity meters to avail of electricity subsidies will commence on April 15. To facilitate this, a dedicated online portal will be launched, enabling consumers to link their ration cards to up to two electricity meters from the comfort of their homes.

The government asserts that this new system will spare consumers the hassle of making repeated visits to Electricity Board offices, as the entire procedure will be completed online. This will not only save time but also enhance transparency within the system.

The New Framework for Electricity Subsidies
Under the new framework, subsidy benefits will now be extended to a maximum of two electricity meters per ration card. This means that families holding more than one meter in their name will receive concessions for only up to two meters; no subsidy will be provided for a third meter. For any additional meters, consumers will be required to pay the full electricity tariff.

To avail of the subsidy, consumers must access the online portal and enter their ration card number along with the relevant details regarding their electricity meters to initiate the linking process.

Once the verification process is completed, the ration card and the meter(s) will be linked. Officials from the Energy Department state that this initiative will bring transparency to the distribution of subsidies and help curb irregularities.

Furthermore, the government will gain access to accurate data regarding actual beneficiaries, thereby enabling the more effective implementation of future schemes.
