Storm Havoc in Himachal: Houses Damaged in Kullu, Tree Falls on Tipper in Rampur; Alert in 4 Districts

After two days of relief in Himachal Pradesh, the weather has changed again. Last night (May 10), storms along with heavy rain wreaked havoc in many areas. In the Banjar area of Kullu, the roofs of 5 residential houses and more than 7 cowsheds were blown away. In Kangra and Shimla as well, storms caused trees and electric poles to fall in several places.

According to the Meteorological Department – last night 41.2 mm of rain fell in Guler, 41 mm in Pandoh, and 32.4 mm in Kangra. Due to fallen trees caused by the storm in Kangra, the electricity was out for 5 hours in many areas. Rain also occurred last night in the districts of Shimla, Mandi, Hamirpur, Solan, and Kullu.

In Rampur of Shimla, the water level of the Ganvi Khad suddenly rose after heavy rain. As a result, a Bolero Camper vehicle got stuck in it and the road broke. People who arrived at the spot conducted a rescue and safely removed the vehicle and the driver. In Patbangla of Rampur, a large tree fell on a tipper standing on the NH. This damaged the vehicle. Incidents of fallen trees due to storms have occurred in many places in the state.

Clouds will rain for the next five days

According to the Meteorological Department, the weather will remain bad in the state for five days. During this period, heavy rain and hailstorms are expected along with storms at a speed of 50 kilometers per hour. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert today for four districts – Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, and Mandi. Clouds have covered most parts of the state since morning.

Orange alert for heavy hailstorm-storm tomorrow

The western disturbance will become stronger from tonight. Considering this, an orange alert has been issued tomorrow for the districts of Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, and Mandi. All other districts, except Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur, have been warned with a yellow alert.

Orange alert in 3 districts on May 13

The day after tomorrow, that is on May 13, an orange alert has been issued in the districts of Kullu, Shimla, and Mandi. A yellow alert warning has been issued for Kangra and Chamba. On May 14, a yellow alert has been issued in the districts of Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, and Sirmaur.

Rain will continue until May 16

Rain is expected to continue in higher and mid-elevation areas on May 16 as well. This will cause a drop in temperature by four to five degrees Celsius over the next five days. Currently, the temperature in most cities is still below normal.

Chamba’s temperature fell 6.7 degrees below normal

The maximum temperature in Chamba has dropped to 29.6 degrees Celsius, 6.7 degrees lower than normal. Nahan’s temperature also fell to 28 degrees with a drop of 5.1 degrees, Shimla’s to 21.5 degrees with a drop of 2.7 degrees, and Solan’s remained at 28 degrees Celsius with a drop of 2.8 degrees below normal.
