Himachal: Students will not fail in class 10, state government approves policy

There’s some relief for 10th-grade students in Himachal Pradesh. The state government has formally approved the School Education Board’s Improvement Policy. Once the decision is implemented, no student will fail or be placed in the 10th-grade board exams, starting in March 2026.

Reducing academic pressure on students
The new policy will reduce academic pressure on students and provide opportunities for improvement in their studies. Under the new system, the Board of Education will conduct examinations twice a year. The first exam will be held in March, while the improvement exam will be held in June-July. Students who fail the main exam in March will get a second chance in June-July. This will prevent their entire year from being wasted.

The Education Department is now exploring the possibility of implementing it for grade 12. Board Secretary Dr. Major Vishal Sharma stated that the Improvement Policy has been approved by the government. A notification will be issued soon.
