Himachal: Electricity Becomes Cheaper; New Rates Released

The Himachal Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission has released the electricity tariff for the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited for the financial year 2026-27. This order also stipulates the tariffs and charges applicable for the financial year 2026-27.

Under this framework, the Commission has reduced the currently prevailing energy charges for all categories of consumers by 1 paisa per unit. This move is set to benefit 2.8 million electricity consumers across the state.

Following a review of the previous period, the Commission has estimated the State Electricity Board’s Annual Revenue Requirement for the financial year 2026-27 at ₹8,636.16 crore. In comparison, this figure stood at ₹8,403.25 crore for the financial year 2025-26.

Based on this review, the Commission has projected the average cost of supply for the Electricity Board for the financial year 2026-27 to be ₹6.75 per unit. This is against the figure of ₹6.76 per unit recorded in the financial year 2025-26. Thus, compared to the previous year, there has been a reduction of 1 paisa per unit in the financial year 2026-27.

The new electricity rates for all categories of consumers will come into effect starting April 1st. Domestic consumers will continue to receive 125 units of free electricity, just as before.
