Himachal Weather Alert: Plains Turn Colder Than Hills; Dense Fog Warning Issued for Next 2 Days

Shimla: In Himachal Pradesh, nights in the plains have now become colder than the state capital, Shimla. Shimla recorded a minimum of 9.6°C — 3.3 degrees above normal — while several plains and lower districts dipped far below this mark.
In contrast, the tribal district of Lahaul-Spiti saw temperatures plunge well below freezing, with Tabo at –7.1°C and Kukumseri at –5.8°C. Kalpa recorded 1.8°C and Bajuara 2.4°C.

Surprisingly, many lower districts were colder than Shimla: Una (5.9°C), Kangra (5.5°C), Bilaspur (6.1°C), Hamirpur (4.2°C), Mandi (4.3°C), Sundernagar (2.9°C), Bhuntar (2.4°C), and Manali (2.7°C). Bilaspur also witnessed dense morning fog, with visibility dropping to 100 meters.
The state’s average minimum temperature rose by 0.2°C in the last 24 hours.

Yellow Fog Alert for Dec 11–12

The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for dense fog in the lower areas of Bilaspur and Mandi districts for December 11 and 12. Reduced visibility may disrupt traffic.
The weather is expected to remain dry statewide till December 13. Light snowfall may occur in high-altitude regions on December 14, while lower and mid-hills will stay clear. Most parts of the state are likely to remain dry on December 15 and 16 as well.

Tourists Await Season’s First Snowfall

Tourists and locals in Shimla, Kufri, and Manali are eagerly waiting for the season’s first snowfall. Typically, snowfall begins in early December, but this year’s prolonged dry spell has heightened expectations.
