Himachal: Weather change starting today; Yellow Alert Issued for Storms, Rain, and Snowfall Over Next Two Days

The weather pattern in Himachal Pradesh is expected to undergo a change starting Friday. The Meteorological Centre in Shimla has issued a ‘Yellow Alert’ for rain and snowfall in the high-altitude regions on April 24 and 25.

While the weather is expected to remain clear in the plains districts on April 26 and 27, another Yellow Alert for rain and snowfall has been issued for April 28 and 29. On April 26, strong winds accompanied by thunderstorms are forecast for Chamba, Kangra, Mandi, Kullu, and Shimla.

According to the Meteorological Department, rainfall higher than normal may be recorded in certain areas of the Kinnaur, Kullu, and Lahaul-Spiti districts. Conversely, there is also a possibility of lower-than-normal rainfall in parts of Chamba and Lahaul-Spiti. The Department further indicates that inclement weather conditions are likely to persist into the beginning of May. Between May 1 and 7, light rain and snowfall may continue in the high and mid-mountain regions, while scattered showers are expected in the plains.

Record Heat in Una: Mercury Hits 40 Degrees

The intensity of the heat across the state continues to rise, with maximum temperatures recorded above normal levels in most locations. The highest temperature—40.0 degrees Celsius was recorded in Una, while Kangra registered 36.4 degrees, Sundernagar 35.8, Barthin 35.3, and Mandi 35.0 degrees. The mercury reached 34.9 degrees in Nahan, while Bhuntar recorded 33.4 degrees; both Dharamshala and Solan registered 33.0 degrees Celsius.

In the state capital, Shimla, the maximum temperature stood at 27.2 degrees, while Manali recorded 26.8 degrees and Kalpa 24.6 degrees. The lowest temperature, 17.9 degrees Celsius, was recorded in Tabo. On average, the maximum temperature across the state remains approximately 4.6 degrees higher than normal, signaling an intensification of the summer heat.
