Cloud burst again at two places in Himachal: Swan river in spate, red alert issued

A cloudburst occurred at two places in Himachal Pradesh today. The Swan river overflowed after heavy rain in Una. A flood occurred in the Kortang drain of Chauharghati Silhbudhani of Mandi district after a cloudburst at 2.30 am. No loss of life has been reported due to this incident. But 3 small pedestrian bridges were washed away in the drain.

On the other hand, a cloudburst occurred in Churah of Chamba this morning, due to which the newly constructed bridge was washed away due to flood in Kanghela drain. Due to the washing away of the bridge, four panchayats of the area were completely cut off from the rest of the world. This bridge was washed away in a flood two years ago also.

Heavy rain started in Una from 5 am today. Rain stopped at 12 noon. But the Swan River is overflowing after more than six hours of rain. Indian Oil petrol pump near Jhaleda bridge of Ghaluwal in Una got submerged. Water also filled in car showroom in Jhaleda.

Many houses were flooded in Dhalwal of Una. The water of the Swan River will meet the Sutlej River after about 15 km from Una and will enter Punjab in Nangal. This can also create flood-like conditions in Punjab.

Let us tell you that heavy rains have been occurring in many parts of Himachal Pradesh since last night. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert here today. This warning is for Kangra, Mandi and Sirmaur districts. Heavy rains may occur in these districts till noon today and late night.

There is an orange alert today in 7 districts of the state, Una, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Chamba, Shimla, Solan and Kullu. Rain is also forecast in these districts. People have been appealed to be cautious in all the other 10 districts except Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur.

After heavy rains, incidents of waterlogging, landslides, floods, falling of trees may occur. In such a situation, caution is necessary. Meteorologist Sandeep Sharma said that heavy rains may occur till afternoon today. A spell of heavy rain may occur late at night.
