Himachal Pradesh Weather Alert: Rain, Snowfall Expected Over Next Four Days

Shimla: The weather in Himachal is about to change. According to the Meteorological Department, rain and snowfall are expected for four days starting tomorrow. Light snowfall is expected in higher elevations on February 27th and 28th. After this, the weather will clear on March 1st. On March 2nd and 3rd, snowfall may occur again in higher elevations and light drizzle in mid-altitude areas.

The Western Disturbance will affect the higher peaks of Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Kinnaur, and Lahaul-Spiti districts. This will also cause a slight drop in temperatures. However, even before the weather change, a slight drop in temperatures has been recorded in many parts of the state.

Two days ago, the state’s average maximum temperature was 4.1 degrees above normal, but now it has dropped to 3.4 degrees. The minimum temperature was also 2.3 degrees above normal two days ago, but now it has dropped to 1.6 degrees Celsius.

February saw 83% less rainfall than normal

So far this winter season, the state has recorded 41 percent less rainfall than normal, with the rainfall deficit in February even greater. Normally, 86.9 millimeters of rain falls between February 1st and 25th, but this time only 14.7 millimeters of rain was recorded, which is 83 percent less than normal.

The lack of rainfall could impact other crops, including apples, in the coming days. Apple growers are worried about early flowering, while farmers are worried about water shortages as early as March and April.
