Weather Shifts in Himachal: Heavy Hailstorm in Karsog, Rain Brings Relief in Sirmaur and Lahaul-Spiti; Warning Issued for 5 Districts

Shimla: Rain accompanied by heavy hailstorms occurred in Karsog, located in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district, after 11:30 AM this morning. This has caused damage to the apple crop in the Deeng and Kathed areas of Karsog.

Meanwhile, several parts of the Sirmaur district received good rainfall last night. Nahan recorded the highest rainfall at 14.2 mm, followed by Paonta Sahib with 6.4 mm, Dhaula Kuan with 3.5 mm, Kukumseri with 2.1 mm, and Keylong with 2.0 mm. Consequently, the minimum temperature in Nahan dropped 5 degrees below normal, settling at 18.3 degrees Celsius.

Elsewhere, light clouds hover over the skies in most parts of the state, including Shimla, Manali, Mandi, and Kangra. This has rendered the weather in the hills pleasant. Both locals and tourists alike have breathed a sigh of relief from the scorching heat.

Orange Alert Issued for 5 Districts 

The Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an ‘Orange Alert’ for today (Friday), warning of heavy hailstorms and thunderstorms in the districts of Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, and Sirmaur. During this period, strong winds gusting up to 50 kilometers per hour are expected.

In some areas, wind speeds are projected to reach up to 60 kilometers per hour. There is a risk of damage to crops belonging to farmers and horticulturists due to the strong gales and hailstorms.

Prospects of Rain Continue Tomorrow

According to the IMD, the weather is forecast to remain inclement across the entire state tomorrow as well. Light rainfall may occur in certain pockets. While the Western Disturbance is expected to weaken starting May 31st, light drizzles may still persist in a few isolated areas until June 2nd.

Relief from Heat

This change in weather will provide much-needed relief to the residents of the state from the intense heat. Temperatures in 11 cities across the state had previously risen above 35 degrees Celsius. The mercury in Una has soared to 43.2 degrees Celsius. Along with the plains, the hilly regions have also started to heat up.

Shimla’s temperature, too, has reached 29 degrees Celsius 4 degrees higher than normal. However, relief from the scorching heat is expected over the next 72 hours, and the weather in the hills is set to remain pleasant. This will allow both local residents and tourists arriving from across the country to enjoy the delightful weather in the mountains.
