Himachal Weather: Rain Likely from May 11 to 13; Clouds Hover Over Shimla

Light clouds hovered over the capital city of Shimla throughout the day on Thursday. Meanwhile, the plains districts enjoyed bright sunshine. Despite the sunny weather in the plains, maximum temperatures remain ten degrees lower than normal.

The Meteorological Centre in Shimla has forecast the likelihood of rain on Friday as well, specifically in certain areas of the eight mid and high-mountain districts: Kinnaur, Lahaul-Spiti, Shimla, Solan, Sirmour, Mandi, Kullu, and Chamba.

Weather clear in the Plains 

The weather is expected to remain clear in the plains districts of Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, and Kangra. A forecast indicates that the weather will remain clear across the entire state on May 9 and 10. However, due to the activity of a Western Disturbance, there is a renewed likelihood of rain in several places from May 11 to May 13.

Crop Damage due to hailstorm 

On Wednesday evening, hailstorms struck four Panchayats: Sharchi, Pekhri, Nauhanda, and Tung within the Banjar subdivision of Kullu. This resulted in severe damage to crops. The hailstones caused damage to apple, plum, pear, apricot, and peach crops. In addition to wheat and barley, vegetable crops also suffered damage. The intensity of the hailstorm was such that even the protective hail nets were bent out of shape.

The weather remained clear on Thursday in Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, and Kangra, as well as in Solan, Sirmour, and Mandi. However, the sunshine lacked its usual intensity.

Even in the month of May, the weather across the state continues to remain cool. On Wednesday night, the minimum temperatures recorded were: 12.0°C in Shimla, 10.6°C in Dharamshala, 17.4°C in Una, 14.5°C in Nahan, 13.0°C in Solan, 15.7°C in Kangra, 14.6°C in Mandi, 18.0°C in Bilaspur, 8.4°C in Manali, and 4.4°C in Kalpa.
