Himachal Weather: Snowfall Likely in Higher Reaches, Temperatures 4°C Above Normal

The weather in higher elevations of Himachal Pradesh is expected to remain inclement today, with light rain and snowfall likely in upper areas, according to the Meteorological Department.

However, most other parts of the state are forecast to experience clear weather. Officials said sunny conditions are expected across Himachal Pradesh from tomorrow, with completely clear skies predicted until February 28.

    Temperatures Significantly Above Normal

Temperatures across the state have risen noticeably in recent days. The average maximum temperature is currently 4.1°C above normal, while the minimum temperature is 2.3°C higher than usual.

    Among major towns:

Kalpa recorded the highest surge, with the maximum temperature rising 7.8°C above normal to 15.2°C.

    Keylong saw a 7.1°C increase, reaching 6.1°C.

    Manali recorded a 5.8°C rise to 18.8°C.

    Kangra witnessed a 4.7°C increase to 25.0°C.

    Bhuntar saw a 5.7°C rise, touching 24.8°C.

In the capital Shimla, the maximum temperature climbed 4.1°C above normal to 17.5°C.

    February Rainfall 81% Below Normal

The state has experienced a sharp rainfall deficit this month. Between February 1 and 22, only 14.4 mm of rain was recorded, compared to the normal 75.5 mm — an 81% shortfall.

Several districts have reported severe deficits:

    • Solan: 94% less rainfall

    • Sirmaur: 93% less

    • Una: 92% less

    • Bilaspur: 91% less

    Winter Season Also Records Deficit

The overall winter season (January 1 to February 22) has seen 37% less cloud cover than normal. During this period, the state received 101.9 mm of rainfall, significantly below the normal 160.8 mm.

Meteorologists attribute the rising temperatures and dry spell to consistently low precipitation and reduced cloud cover, leading to noticeable changes in Himachal’s winter weather pattern.
