Yellow rain alert in 5 Himachal districts amid weak Monsoon; 22 Cloudbursts, Rs. 739 Crore damage reported

Shimla, July 10: A yellow alert for rain has been issued in 5 districts of Himachal Pradesh today. According to the Meteorological Department, Una, Hamirpur, Kangra, Mandi, and Sirmaur districts may receive rain today. In other districts, the weather is expected to remain clear or there may be light drizzle.

Monsoon has been weak in the state for the past week. Due to this, the people of the state have heaved a sigh of relief. There is no possibility of heavy rain in the next four to five days.

The weather will be clear across the state on Friday and Saturday. During the last week (2 to 9 July), there has been 24 per cent less rainfall than normal. Normal rainfall during this period is 50.7 mm, but this time, 38.8 mm of rain has fallen.

106 mm of rain in Dhaula Kuan

During the last 24 hours, Dhaula Kuan received the maximum rainfall of 106.0 mm. Shimla received 10 mm rainfall, Sundarnagar 4, Nahan 2.3, Mandi 22, Narkanda 13, Jubbarhatti 18 mm.

So far, cloudburst has occurred at 22 places

So far, 22 incidents of cloudburst have occurred in the state in this monsoon season. This has caused huge loss of life and property. So far, 85 people have lost their lives in the monsoon season (20 June to 9 July). Out of these, 15 people have died due to cloudburst, 8 in flash flood and 1 in landslide.

34 people missing, 431 houses destroyed

34 people are still missing in the state after being swept away by floods and houses collapsing. Search operations are on to find them. 404 concrete houses and 27 kutcha houses have completely collapsed this rainy season, while 751 concrete houses and 223 kutcha houses have suffered partial damage.

Similarly, 877 cow shelters, 223 shops and industries have also been destroyed in this rain. So far, government and private property worth Rs 739 crore has been destroyed due to rain in the state.
