Chief Minister and Chairman of Himachal Pradesh Child Welfare Council, Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, got the orphan daughter Jyoti (fictitious name), growing up in the crèche Tooti Kandi, Shimla, in Oakover, adopted by her prospective parents. He congratulated Jyoti’s prospective parents.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister appealed to the rich people of the society to come forward to adopt the orphan teenage children growing up in crèches and ashrams so that a happy and bright future can be ensured for these children.
The Chief Minister said that the state government is continuously making efforts for the welfare of the weaker and poorer sections of society. The state government has understood the pain of the orphan and helpless sections and has started the Chief Minister Sukh Ashray Yojana. Now the state government is the mother and father of the 4000 orphan children of the state and they have been adopted as ‘Children of the State’.
Himachal has become the first state in the country to make a scheme under law for orphan children and destitute sections. They have been given benefits worth about Rs 18 crore so far. Chief Minister’s Happiness Shelter Fund is another meaningful initiative in the direction of these efforts of the state government.
In this, valuable contributions have been received from the people of the state, cabinet colleagues and MLAs have also contributed. This fund has become helpful in securing the living, education and future of orphan children. On this occasion, Chief Parliamentary Secretary Sanjay Awasthi, Director Women and Child Development Rupali Thakur and General Secretary of Himachal Pradesh Child Welfare Council Mohan Dutt Sharma were present.
