After Centre Himachal govt prepares to scrap no-detention policy

Students who fail in class V and VIII will get two chances to pass the examination.

Shimla: In Himachal, students will be held back in class V and VIII from the year 2025. After the decision of the central government, the Himachal government is also preparing to scrap the no-detention policy. Students who fail in class V and VIII will get two chances to pass the examination.

Himachal Pradesh has been opposing the no-detention policy since the decision was implemented in the country. Now with the decision of the Center to end this policy, a new system will be implemented in the state from the upcoming academic session. Education department officials have started preparing a proposal in this regard. The matter was discussed in the departmental review meeting chaired by Education Minister Rohit Thakur at the State Secretariat on Tuesday.

The Education Minister directed to prepare a proposal keeping in mind all aspects. Let us tell you that making a big change in school education, the Central Government has abolished the no-detention policy for class V and VIII in schools. This policy allows holding those students who are unable to pass the year-end examinations.

Department officials said that the state had decided to fail students in classes 5th and 8th during the amendment made under the Right to Education Act in 2019. Instructions were also issued to the district officials in this regard but the instructions were not implemented. Now it has been decided to strictly implement this policy for classes 5th and 8th.
