Shimla: The spark of protest that ignited from Sanjauli in Himachal Pradesh over the mosque issue has reached Nerwa, a remote area of Shimla district. A large number of people took to the streets on Thursday in Nerwa, adjacent to Uttarakhand. Local people raised strong slogans against a particular community and demanded the abolition of the Waqf Board.
The Karni Sena and Hindu organizations had called for this demonstration. The protesters gathered in the Nerwa market and were trying to move towards the mosque. During this, the police stopped the protesters. Then there was a mild scuffle between the police and the protesters. The protesters calmed down after the police explained. The local people gave an ultimatum to verify the people coming from outside in 10 days. If this is not done, they warned of a violent demonstration in Nerwa again.
In fact, the Karni Sena and Hindu organizations got enraged by the police lathi charge on September 11 in Shimla. Therefore, they had called for a demonstration in Nerwa today. The protesters in Nerwa demanded to curb the increasing number of outsiders in the state.
Karni Sena media co-ordinator Amit Sharma said that in the last few years, there has been a tremendous increase in the number of outsiders from a particular community in the Kupvi area of Chaupal. He claimed that people have come from outside and settled here illegally. Due to the sudden increase in the number of outsiders, the incidents of drug abuse, violence and crime have increased in the area.
He said that earlier people from a particular community used to live in this area, who are locals, they used to live peacefully and all together. But in the last few years, due to the increase in the number of outsiders, the atmosphere here is deteriorating. He alleged that most outsiders are involved in illegal drug abuse and other criminal incidents in the area.
After Nerwa in Shimla, now Hindu Sangharsh Samiti has called for a demonstration on 21 September in Shillai of Sirmaur district. During this, a demand will be made to the Government of India to abolish the Waqf Board.
