Shimla: The State Disaster Management Force, in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Force, organized a mega mock drill at 85 sites in all the districts of the state on Friday.
A command center was set up for this in the State Secretariat Shimla. The mock drills conducted in various districts were monitored at the command center. During the mock drills, Revenue and Horticulture Minister Jagat Singh Negi was specially present at the Command Center Shimla.
He interacted with the Deputy Commissioners virtually and also inquired about the exercises being done on the ground. He said that the time taken to establish communication and response should be minimized so that the risk to life and property is minimized.
Jagat Singh Negi said that during a disaster it should be ensured that electricity, water, medical facilities reach the people in the shortest possible time. He also emphasized on establishing communication through satellite phones in case of emergency in disaster-prone areas like Manali, Kullu, Mandi and Lahaul. The Horticulture Minister said that radio based communication would prove helpful in emergency situations.
Senior Advisor of NDRF Major General (Retd.) Sudhir Bahl took information from all the districts about the challenges faced during the mock drill and also took suggestions to solve the problems.
Special Secretary Disaster Management DC Rana urged all the districts to prepare and send the mock drill report soon.
