Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur over phone on Friday morning regarding the damage caused by the natural disaster in Mandi district. The Union Minister inquired about the latest situation and rescue and relief operations. Former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said that apart from NDRF, a contingent of army personnel has also reached today and is engaged in delivering ration and essential goods to remote areas.
Appreciating the services being provided by NDRF, SDRF, local police and home guard jawans, he said that everyone is completing the given task with full diligence. He said that teams are also reaching various places in search of missing people, and their role in evacuating the stranded people, apart from delivering ration in flood-affected areas, is commendable.
He said that he is also personally in touch with NDRF Second Commandant Rajneesh, SDRF Commandant Arjit Sen and District Police Chief Sakshi Verma. The former Chief Minister reached Bagsyad in the morning and gave instructions to Jal Shakti, Electricity, and Public Works officials regarding the progress report. He talked to the officials of the companies engaged in repairing the communication services on the spot and asked them to restore telecommunication services soon.
He said that our priority right now is to evacuate the stranded people and search for the missing people. All the teams are working in coordination and they have been asked to work by taking constant feedback from the local people. He encouraged these people working near the machines engaged in opening the road in Harnal Nala even amidst heavy rain. He said that our effort is to reach Thunag by this evening.
While the former Chief Minister was walking on the way to Thunag, he also received a call from Urban Development and Energy Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and discussed how help can be provided by central undertakings. He assured that the Center and his ministry will provide all possible help in case of disaster. He said that the kind of videos he saw in TV reports are disturbing. The condition can be understood from this. In such a time of disaster, we all stand with the people of Himachal.
