Trade union protests at many places in Himachal: Farmers-labourers take out protest rally in Shimla-Mandi

A rally was taken out from Panchayat Bhawan to the Chaura Maidan in Shimla.

On the call of central trade unions, a large number of farmers, laborers, and employees associated with trade unions have come out on the streets at various places in Himachal. A large number of people participated in these demonstrations in Shimla, Mandi, Kullu, Theog, Rampur etc. in protest against the 4 Labor Codes. A rally was taken out from Panchayat Bhawan to the Chaura Maidan in Shimla. A public meeting is going on here now. It is being addressed by national level farmer-labor leaders.

A large number of farmers, laborers and employees associated with trade unions also participated in the demonstration in Mandi.

CITU State President Vijender Mehra said that there is a nationwide strike against the Labor Code. About 25 crore farmers-laborers from various sectors across the country joined this strike. He said, in Shimla, workers from the industry banks, hotels and unorganized sector have also become a part of the strike.

Apart from this, various allied organizations, students, youth and farmers also joined it. The protesters demanded the withdrawal of 4 labor laws.

Why are workers on strike across the country?

Trade unions say that the policies of the government are against workers and farmers. They allege that the government is privatizing public sector companies to benefit the corporates, snatching away the rights of workers and weakening the rights of workers like strike and collective bargaining through four new labor codes.

A platform of 10 central trade unions and their allies has called for a ‘Bharat Bandh’ to protest against the government’s anti-labor, anti-farmer and anti-national corporate policies. Trade unions have called upon all workers and farmers to come on one platform to make the nationwide strike a success.
