CBI forms separate team to investigate evidences in Vimal Negi death case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has intensified the investigation into the death of Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL) Chief Engineer Vimal Negi. The CBI has formed a special team, which includes a deputy superintendent of police, an inspector and a sub-inspector, to collect and examine evidence.

The team has started the work of examining the evidence and statements of several people have also been recorded. The team is also analyzing communication records and other data related to Vimal Negi’s tenure and his work in HPPCL.

Forensic examination of digital devices recovered during the initial phase of the investigation is being done. The Himachal Pradesh High Court had transferred the case to the CBI on May 23 after Vimal Negi’s wife Kiran Negi filed a petition expressing dissatisfaction over the investigation by the state police.

The court had also directed that the CBI investigation team will not include Himachal cadre officers to ensure a fair investigation. The CBI registered an FIR against unknown persons under sections 105 (abetment of suicide) and 3(5) (complication of several persons in a crime) of the Indian Penal Code on May 26.

Vimal Negi went missing on March 10 and was found dead in the Gobindsagar lake in Bilaspur district on March 18.
