Shimla: An important meeting was held in Shimla between Himachal Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Union Energy and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and state officials. Many important issues including ownership of the Shanan Project, and Himachal’s share in the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) were discussed in this.
Manohar Lal Khattar said that the 100-year lease of Shanan Project has ended. He said, “We will talk to Punjab about this and resolve the differences. Punjab government has also gone to the Supreme Court regarding the Shanan Project. In this, the central government has to give an affidavit to the Supreme Court.”
He added that after studying the Punjab Reorganization Act, the central government will give an affidavit in the court. The CM also urged to give Himachal its rights under the Punjab Reorganization Act.
The Union Minister said, that Himachal is an energy state. The issue of some projects is going on. One topic came up in the meeting to increase the free power share from the Himachal government. It was considered. It is expected to find a solution soon within a month or two. He said that other issues were also discussed in the meeting.
Let us tell you that the Punjab government is not ready to return the Shanan project, which has an income of Rs 200 crore, to Himachal. Therefore, the Himachal government raised this issue before the Union Minister. CM Sukhu said that the claim made by Punjab in the court is wrong. Himachal should get this project.
Similarly, Himachal has a liability of more than Rs 4000 crore pending in BBMB. Despite the orders of the Supreme Court, it is not being paid. The Supreme Court gave a decision in favor of Himachal on 27-9-2011 and fixed Himachal’s share in the power projects operated by BBMB at 7.19 percent.
