Cow smuggling racket busted in Manali, 3 smugglers detained

The truck driver first claimed that there were the Indian Army's goods in the vehicle. But when the tarpaulin was removed, cows were found in it.

Police busted cow smuggling in Manali, Himachal. There was a flash flood near the Snow Gallery in Solang Valley of Manali on Thursday. This caused a long traffic jam on the Manali-Leh road. At that time, a foul smell was coming from the vehicle.

After this, when the police checked the vehicle number JK-02-BS-6977, 9 cows were found, out of which 2 were dead. The truck driver first claimed that there were the Indian Army’s goods in the vehicle. But when the tarpaulin was removed, cows were found in it.

When people asked about the smell, the smugglers got scared: DSP

DSP Manali KD Sharma said that on Thursday evening, when people asked the driver about the smell in Solang Nala, he got scared. On searching, it was found that this is a case of cow smuggling.

Police detained 3 smugglers

KD Sharma said that 3 people travelling in the truck identified as Mohammad Masaan (35) son of Abdul Rashid resident of J&K, Mohammad Rafi (28) son of Mohammad Bashir resident of Riyashi J&K and Mohammad Riyaz (23) son of Ali Mohammad, resident of Rajouri J&K have been detained by the police.

A case has been registered against these three smugglers detained with cows under the sections of the Animal Cruelty Act.

In the cow smuggling case, former minister and BJP state vice-president Govind Thakur targeted the Sukhu-led Congress government. He said that many such cases have been exposed earlier also but the Sukhu government is not taking any concrete action on this.
