Dense fog alert in 2 districts of Himachal: 46-day dry spell of rain continues across state

Its biggest blow has been on the farmers.

Shimla: The dry spell that has been going on for 46 days in Himachal Pradesh has not been broken. The Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted rain and snowfall yesterday and today. But there was no rain or snowfall anywhere in the state. However, today also rain and snowfall is expected on the high peaks of Lahaul Spiti and Chamba.

Due to this drought, the situation in the state is getting worse. Its biggest blow has been on the farmers. The appropriate time for sowing wheat in the state has passed. But this time farmers have been able to sow wheat on only 10 percent of the land. According to the Agriculture Department, last year the wheat crop in the state was on 3.26 lakh hectares of land.

This time it has been sown on barely 30 thousand hectares of land. The crops of the farmers who had sown wheat have also started getting spoiled due to lack of moisture in the ground. Water sources have started drying up. Due to this, farmers are not even able to do irrigation.

According to IMD, 33.6 mm of rain falls in the state from October 1 to November 15. This time only 0.7 mm of clouds have rained. The monsoon has also received 19 percent less rainfall than normal. Not a single drop of water fell in the state from October 1 to 15. This is not considered a good sign for agriculture as well as tourism in the state.

Usually, snowfall used to occur on the high peaks of Lahaul Spiti, Kullu and Chamba after October 15. Due to this, tourists also used to come in large numbers to see it. But this time the weather is not being kind.
