To curb the ever-increasing road accidents in the country, the government has decided to open driving training centers.

Shimla: Driving training centers will be established in Shimla, Solan and Kangra. These centers will be established in the state on PPP mode with the support of the central government. Two thousand people will be trained annually in each center. A letter has been sent to the state government regarding this by Mrityunjay Kumar, Under Secretary, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (Road Safety Cell). To curb the ever-increasing road accidents in the country, the government has decided to open driving training centers.

Under the 15th Finance Commission, guidelines have been issued for the establishment of the Institute of Driving Training and Research (IDTRS) Regional Driving Training Centers (RDTC) and Driving Training Centers (DTC). Certificates will be issued to the candidates receiving training here.

Those who have a certificate of passing from the driving centers will not need to take a driving test to get a driving license at the regional transport offices. Refresher courses will also be conducted at driving training centers for the renewal of driving licenses.

There is also a proposal to make it mandatory for drivers of government vehicles in the Center and the states to get training and certificates from these centers.

The process of opening driving training centers is underway in the state. Those who take training at these centers will get certificates and they will not have to give a driving test while making a driving license. Locations for driving training centers will soon be selected in all three districts.
