Himachal Pradesh: During the voting for the assembly by-election being held in Gagret along with the Lok Sabha elections on Saturday, such negligence was done at a polling station that it could have led to re-polling at that booth. Due to a glitch in the EVM during the voting to elect the MP, the presiding officer placed the EVM used for voting for the MLA instead of the EVM kept for voting for the MP. After the voting continued for some time, the mistake was caught, then the voting was stopped in a hurry and the EVM was changed. Taking strict cognizance of this, Deputy Commissioner and Assistant Election Officer Una Jatin Lal has suspended the presiding officer and sector officer with immediate effect. According to the information, on Saturday morning, before the voting started for the assembly by-election being held in Gagret along with the Lok Sabha elections, the EVM kept for electing the MP malfunctioned during the mock poll.
On this, the presiding officer of booth number one Mandwara of Gagret assembly constituency placed the EVM used for electing the MLA instead of the EVM used for voting for the MP. It is being told that 56 voters even cast their votes, and then this mistake was caught. When the matter came to the notice of higher officials, the EVM was immediately changed. Not only this, but those voters who had already voted were also called back for voting. When the matter came to the notice of Deputy Commissioner and Assistant Election Officer Jatin Lal, he considered it a big negligence and suspended the presiding officer and sector officer. On the other hand, in the assembly constituency Gagret itself, before the voting started, about half a dozen EVMs were reported to be faulty. Due to this, voting started late at some polling stations. Assistant Election Officer Jatin Lal said that the presiding officer and sector officer have been suspended for the negligence in Mandwara. He said that voting was smooth in Mandwara.
