Shimla: The effect of the rain that has been continuing for the last 24 hours in the state is now visible in everyday life. Roads, electricity, and drinking water schemes have been affected by the rain. Mandi district has been the most affected by the heavy rain. Here, roads and transformers have stopped working. Rain has become an obstacle for drinking water schemes in Shimla. However, PWD, Jalshakti, and the Electricity Board have put in all their efforts to bring the system back on track, and due to this, a big improvement has been seen in the last 24 hours despite the rain. Late on Wednesday night, 115 roads were blocked across the state.
To restore them, PWD started work by bringing down heavy machinery in the morning itself. By afternoon, PWD had restored 34 roads. Vehicle movement has started again on these roads. 59 roads are still blocked in Mandi. The maximum impact of the rain was seen in Mandi district itself.
On Thursday, the situation here seemed to be improving. After receiving the information, the PWD deployed machines to open all the roads. The department has succeeded in restoring four roads in Chamba and three in Solan. However, 21 roads are still blocked in Shimla.
Out of these, 16 are blocked in Shimla, 14 in Rampur, and one in Rohru. The effect of rain is also being seen on drinking water schemes. 13 drinking water schemes in Shimla, which has faced a water crisis in the summer, have been disrupted in the last 24 hours. Some drinking water systems have been filled with silt. Due to the disruption of these drinking water schemes, a drinking water crisis may arise in Theog and Kumarsen in the coming days. Among the stalled drinking water schemes, eight in Theog and five in Kumarsen are disrupted. Here, people are forced to carry water from faraway places amidst the rain. The Jal Shakti Department has said that all the drinking water schemes will be restored soon.
195 transformers were restored.
Power is still out at 17 transformers across the state. People here are forced to live in the dark. 212 transformers had stopped working due to rain late on Wednesday night. The electricity board has restored 195 of these. People have heaved a sigh of relief with the restoration of power. The maximum of 147 transformers had stopped working in Mandi. The board employees have restored 143 of these. According to the electricity board, four transformers are now out of order in Mandi. The board has restored 42 transformers in Kullu and seven in Solan. Power is out at 13 transformers in Chamba.
