Himachal High Court notice to Kangana Ranaut: Asks to respond by August 21

Petitioner said the election should be cancelled; my nomination was cancelled.

Shimla: The election of Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut, who became BJP MP from Mandi, has been challenged in the Himachal High Court. This challenge was given by Layak Ram Negi, a resident of Kinnaur district. He has demanded the cancellation of the election.

On the petition of Layak Ram Negi, the High Court issued a notice to Kangana on Wednesday. Judge Jyotsna Rewal Dua has asked Kangana, who has been made a respondent, to respond by August 21.

Layak Ram had also filed nomination papers from the Mandi Lok Sabha seat. According to Layak Ram Negi, his nomination papers were wrongly rejected.

Therefore, he has demanded the cancellation of the Mandi Lok Sabha elections.

Layak Ram has also made the Returning Officer (RO) and DC Mandi as respondents in this case. He has demanded re-election on the Mandi seat.

According to Layak Ram, he filed his nomination papers from the Mandi Lok Sabha seat on May 14. On his premature retirement from the Forest Department, he submitted the necessary No Dues Certificate issued by the Forest Department along with the nomination form to the Election Officer.

During the nomination, he was told that he would also have to submit the No Dues Certificates for electricity, water, and telephone issued by the concerned departments independently for the government residence. He was given time till the next day to submit this certificate.

The nomination papers were to be scrutinized on May 15. According to the applicant, on May 15, he submitted the No Dues Certificates for electricity, water, and telephone issued by various departments to the RO. But he refused to take these documents and said that the absence of the above No Dues Certificate in the applicant’s nomination is a major error, which cannot be rectified now. After this, his nomination was rejected.

According to Layak Ram, due to this, he could not contest the Lok Sabha elections. According to the applicant, this was not a major error due to which his nomination would be rejected. The petitioner says that if he had been allowed to contest the elections, he would have succeeded in winning the Lok Sabha elections. Given this, he has appealed to cancel the election of the Mandi seat so that re-election can be held on this seat.
