Electricity board employees, engineers held panchayat; take out rally in Una raising demands

If the demands raised are not resolved in time, the next District Panchayat will be held in Chamba on March 3, 2025.

Una: The United Front of Electricity Board employees, engineers and pensioners organized a district-level electricity panchayat in Una on Tuesday. Hundreds of electricity board employees, engineers, pensioners and electricity consumers of the Una district participated in it. It is noteworthy that electricity employees, engineers, and pensioners have been agitating since February 6 under the banner of the United Struggle Committee.

A similar electricity panchayat was organized in Hamirpur on February 11. E. ML Vashishth, Chandra Singh Mandayal, E. KD Sharma, Kuldeep Kharwada, Kameshwar Dutt Sharma, Ajay Parashar, E. Deepak Chauhan, Ashwani Sharma and Heera Lal Verma, Shantiswaroop Sharma, Jagmel Thakur, Pawan Mohal, Munish Sharma, Pankaj Sharma, Sham Lal of the United Front were present in the electricity panchayat held in Una.

On this occasion, the leaders of the committee opposed the dismissal of employee leader Nitish Kumar and described it as an action taken by the electricity board management out of revenge for abolishing the posts and raising voices in favor of the old pension in the board. After the Panchayat, a rally was taken out and a memorandum was submitted to the Chief Minister through the District Magistrate. If the demands raised are not resolved in time, the next District Panchayat will be held in Chamba on March 3, 2025.

The co-convener of the committee said that the government and the management should come forward with a sense of responsibility and immediately hold talks on the issues raised by the JAC of electricity board employees, engineers and pensioners so that the deadlock prevailing between them can be broken. He warned that if the management does not hold talks and resolve these issues in view of the anger, then the JAC will be forced to take a major action, for which the management has already been given notice.

Demands of Board

Rationalization and reduction in posts in the Electricity Board should be stopped. The 51 posts abolished recently should be restored. In view of the huge shortage of employees in the Electricity Board, the recruitment process should be started immediately on the vacant posts. The old pension system should be implemented for electricity employees recruited after May 2003. The pension arrears, leave encashment and gratuity of pensioners pending for the last two years should be paid immediately. A permanent policy should be made for outsourced workers working in the Electricity Board and the 81 drivers (outsourced) who were laid off recently should be re-employed. The provisions of the bilateral agreement signed between the government and the Pradesh State Electricity Board Employees and Engineers United Front will be followed and no asset will be transferred without their consultation. Outsourcing of operation and maintenance of sub-stations and power houses of Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board should be stopped.
