Bhakra Dam: Unleashes water to quench thirsty Delhi

Haryana-Punjab and Rajasthan benefit; Administration advised not to go near Sutlej river.

Kharad: For the past few days there has been a water shortage problem in Delhi. After this the Supreme Court interference water has been released through a turbine this morning from Bhakra Dam, which is important for Punjab and Haryana in terms of electricity and water.

Bhakra Beas Management Board issued an advisory regarding this two days ago.

During this time, SDM Nangal has advised people not to go near the river.

Along with this, a meeting has been called to make future arrangements given the rainy season. According to the data recorded at 6 a.m. today, the inflow of Govind Sagar Lake built behind Bhakra Dam is 23140 cusecs and the outflow is 22905 cusecs. From here, 4500 cusecs of water will be released into the Sutlej River from Nangal Dam.

The administration has prepared a map to release 1000 cusecs of water at 8 a.m. and then 1000 cusecs of water every hour from Nangal Dam. 640 cusecs of water are already being released into the Sutlej River. Today, there is a plan to release about 4500 cusecs of water from Nangal Dam.

Apart from Punjab, large areas of Haryana and Rajasthan will benefit from this water.

The administration has appealed to the people living on the banks of the Sutlej River not to go near the river, as the water level can rise at any time. This time the water level in Bhakra Dam is being recorded to be higher than last year.

According to sources, the dam administration has already planned to release water from time to time to avoid flood-like situations.
