Shimla: Former Himachal Pradesh minister, former MP and 5-time MLA from Dharamshala, Kishan Kapoor passed away today. He was ill for a long time. He breathed his last today at PGI Chandigarh after a long illness.
Kishan Kapoor was elected MLA from Dharamshala Assembly five times. He became a minister in the state government three times (1998, 2008 and 2017). In the year 2019, he was also elected MP from Kangra seat. Kishan Kapoor won in 2019 by a record margin of the highest voting percentage in the entire country.
He became MLA for the first time in 1990
Kishan Kapoor became MLA for the first time in 1990. He reached the Vidhan Sabha for the second time in 1993 and for the third time in 1998. In 2003, he lost the election to Congress’ Chandresh Kumari.
In 2007, he won the election again and reached the Vidhan Sabha. In 2012, he lost the election to Sudhir Sharma of Congress. In 2017, Kishan Kapoor reached the Vidhan Sabha for the 5th time by defeating Sudhir Sharma of Congress.
Elected Lok Sabha MP in 2019
In the year 2019, the party high command fielded Himachal government minister Kishan Kapoor from the Kangra Lok Sabha seat in place of Shanta Kumar and he was elected MP for the first time in 2019.

BJP MLA from Dharamshala Sudhir Sharma expressed grief over the demise of Kishan Kapoor and condoled his death.
Leader of Opposition in Himachal Jairam Thakur also expressed grief on the news of death of senior BJP leader, Kishan Kapoor. He said, the BJP family has lost a big leader, this loss is impossible to compensate. He said, as a minister, Kishan Kapoor has played an important role in the development of the state and the welfare of the people, his contribution will always be remembered.
