Former Himachal minister Wazir Kewal Singh Pathania passes away

Former Himachal minister Wazir Kewal Singh Pathania passed away today. He was ill for a long time. He breathed his last at midnight at the age of 88. The last rites will be performed with state honors in his native village today.

Elected MLA for the first time in 1972

In 1972, Pathania contested from Nurpur constituency and reached the assembly. In 1990, he became MLA for the second time from Jawalamukhi in Virbhadra Singh’s government. Then he was made Transport Minister in the Virbhadra government.

Made a minister once, MLA twice

Born in 1937, Wazir Kewal Singh Pathania became MLA twice and cabinet minister once. His political journey was full of struggle and achievements. Despite being from a Congress family, he contested elections from Azad and other parties.

Became BDC President in 1968

Wazir Kewal Pathania was elected Block Committee (BDC) President for the first time in 1968. In 1972, he contested the first assembly election as an independent candidate. Then he defeated Congress veteran Sat Mahajan. However, Congress did not include him in the party because Sat Mahajan had become the state president.

He lost the election to Sat Mahajan as a Janata Party candidate in 1977 and as an independent candidate in 1982. He did not contest the election in 1985 at the behest of Virbhadra Singh. But in 1989, he left Congress and contested under the Janata Dal banner and defeated Sat Mahajan.
