Heat wave alert in 8 districts of Himachal: No chance of rain for 6 days; Some precautionary measure to prevent heatstroke

Yellow alert of heat wave has been issued in 8 districts of Himachal Pradesh today. Heat wave has been going on in the mountains for the last 6 days and it is causing severe heat in the state.

Shimla: Yellow alert of heat wave has been issued in 8 districts of Himachal Pradesh today. Heat wave has been going on in the mountains for the last 6 days and it is causing severe heat in the state. For today, alert has been issued to Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Mandi, Kullu, Solan and Sirmaur districts.

Due to heat wave and bright sunlight, it is extremely hot in the mountains. Due to this the forests are burning from today. Water in irrigation and drinking water sources is drying up. Farmers’ crops are dying due to drought. People are not able to come out of their homes. The concern is that there is no chance of rain till May 28.

According to the Meteorological Department, the temperature may rise by one to three degrees in the next four-five days and at present no western disturbance is seen to be active, which can provide relief to the people of the state from the scorching heat.

Una’s temperature is 43 degrees
The temperature in 3 cities of Himachal has already reached 40 degrees Celsius and the temperature in 11 cities has reached between 35 to 40 degrees. The temperature of Una has reached 43 degrees, Neri 42 degrees and Bilaspur 40.4 degrees.

The temperature in these cities crossed 35 degrees
Similarly, Barathi 38.5 degrees, Dhaula Kuan 37.1 degrees, Kangra 37.6 degrees, Sundernagar 38.4 degrees, Chamba 37.7 degrees, Bhuntar 35.4 degrees, Dharamshala 33.6 degrees, Nahan 35.8 degrees, Solan 33 degrees, Mandi 37.2 degrees, Hamirpur 34.4 degrees and Bajora 35.3 degrees.

Take precautions to prevent heat stroke

Some Dos:
1. Make the person suffering from heat stroke lie down in the shade. If there are tight clothes, loosen them or remove them.

2. Wipe the body with a cold wet cloth or bathe with cold water.

3. Keep your home cool, use curtains, shutters etc. Keep windows open at night.

4. Be alert about weather forecasts and upcoming temperature changes.

5. If you do not feel well or feel dizzy, contact a doctor immediately.

6. Give the person ORS/lemon water/salt-sugar solution to drink, which can increase the amount of water in the body.

7. If the person vomits water or becomes unconscious, he should

8. If the condition of a heat stroked person does not improve within an hour, take him immediately to the nearest health center.

9. Keep animals in shade and give them plenty of water to drink.

Some Don’ts
1. As far as possible, do not go out in harsh sunlight.

2. Do not work hard in high temperatures.

3. Alcohol, tea, coffee, highly sweetened beverages, cold drinks

4. Do not consume substances containing gas.

5. Don’t let children play in it.

6. Do not eat stale food. Do not cook during peak heat.

7. Never leave children or pets alone in the car in the sun.

8. Drink water as often as possible, even if you don’t feel thirsty.

9.Always keep drinking water with you while travelling.

10. Whenever you go out in the sun, wear light-colored and loose-fitting cotton clothes, use sunglasses, cover your head with a towel or cap and always wear shoes or slippers.

First aid measures in case of heatstroke

1. Increase air flow by using a fan.
2. Wipe the body with a wet cloth or sprinkle water.
