Heavy snowfall in Himachal; Lahaul Spiti cut off; Avalanche warning

On the other hand, good rain is falling in other areas of the state including Shimla and Manali. In view of heavy snowfall, the Lahaul Spiti administration has issued an alert of avalanche in the district. Falling of snow in areas with high slopes can cause damage. For this, tourists as well as local people have been advised to be cautious.

3 feet snow in Rohtang Pass

Apart from Lahaul Spiti, light snowfall is also happening in the higher regions of Kinnaur, Mandi, Chamba and Kinnaur. Rohtang Pass has received fresh snowfall of up to three feet. Two feet of snow has fallen on the North Portal of Koksar and Atal Tunnel, and nearly two feet of snow has fallen on the South Portal of Atal Tunnel.

It has been raining intermittently in the plains and medium altitude areas of the state for the last two days. Due to this, the people of the state have also got relief from the drought like situation.

Orange alert for snowfall today and tomorrow

According to the Meteorological Department, Western Disturbance will remain active in the state for the next 3 days. Due to this, there is a possibility of good rain and snowfall in the mountains. For today and tomorrow, the Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert of heavy snowfall to Kangra, Chamba, Mandi and Kullu districts.

Yellow alert in these districts

A yellow alert has been issued for snowfall in Shimla, Solan and Sirmaur districts. Storm and thunderstorms may also occur in these districts. Similarly, a yellow alert for cold wave has been issued in Una, Hamirpur and Bilaspur districts.

220 roads and 250 electricity transformers closed

After fresh snowfall in Kinnaur and Lahaul Spiti, more than 220 roads and 250 electricity transformers have stopped working. Due to this, electricity has been cut off in people’s homes.
