Intermittent snowfall continues in the high-altitude areas of Himachal Pradesh. Rain has been recorded in other areas including Shimla. Snowfall has been continuing in Lahaul-Spiti district since late Tuesday evening. Heavy snowfall has been reported in the residential areas of Lahaul. This has disrupted life. Rohtang Pass has received 75 cm snowfall, Koksar 45 cm, Atal Tunnel North Portal 45 cm, South Portal 40 cm, Keylong 30 cm and Udaipur has received 25 to 30 cm snowfall. Due to this, tribal areas have come under the grip of cold wave.
According to the Meteorological Center Shimla, there is a forecast of rain and snowfall in Himachal Pradesh till March 4. Heavy rain and snowfall may occur at some places on 26, 27 and 28 February. During this period, there is a possibility of light rain and snowfall at many places and moderate rain at some places in the higher areas of Kangra, Chamba, Shimla, Kullu, Mandi and Sirmaur districts including Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur.
An orange alert has been issued for heavy to very heavy rain and snowfall at some places in Chamba, Kangra, Kullu and Mandi during 27 and 28 February. At the same time, there is a yellow alert for heavy rain and snowfall in Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur, Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti during 26 to 28 February. There is a possibility of light rain and snowfall at many places in the state on March 1 and at one or two places on March 2. There is a possibility of light to moderate rain and snowfall at some places on 3 and 4 March.
More than one foot of snowfall has occurred in the upper peaks of Pangi and Bharmour of Chamba district. Heavy rain continues in the lower areas. Due to rain and snowfall, traffic has come to a standstill on 25 routes of the district including Pangi. Bus services are also closed on all routes of Pangi due to increased slipperiness after snowfall. Apart from this, power supply is disrupted due to shutdown of 100 transformers in the district. Departmental teams and machinery have been engaged in restoring the services derailed after snowfall and rain.
