Himachal: 103 more government schools with zero enrollment will be closed, preparations to merge 443

The proposal states that the number of students in 72 primary, 28 middle and three high schools in the state is zero. These schools should be closed after denotifying them.

In Himachal Pradesh, 103 schools with zero enrollment will be closed. There is a plan to merge 443 schools with 10 students. The Directorate of School Education has prepared a proposal on the basis of enrollments in schools till April 21 and sent it to the government for approval. Schools with 10 students will be accommodated in schools with higher enrollments within a radius of 2 to 5 km. The proposal states that the number of students in 72 primary, 28 middle and three high schools in the state is zero. These schools should be closed after denotifying them.

There are 203 primary schools where the number of students is five or less. These schools should be merged with other schools within a radius of two km. There are 142 primary schools with less than five students, which do not have other schools within a radius of two km. These schools will have to be merged with schools within a distance of three km. 92 middle schools have ten or less students, it has been recommended to merge them with schools more than three km away. There is a proposal to merge seven high schools with 20 students within a radius of four km and to downgrade 39 high schools with five to ten students to middle schools.

73 high, senior secondary schools will be downgraded

The proposal also recommends downgrading the status of 73 high and senior secondary schools with less number of students. The number of students in a senior secondary school is less than 25. It is proposed to merge it. 16 senior secondary schools with 10 students have been asked to downgrade their status to high schools. Children studying here will be given admission in schools within a radius of five km. 18 senior secondary schools have less than five students. The status of these schools will also be downgraded.

78 schools for boys and girls will be merged to become co-education schools

78 schools with less number of boys and girls will be merged to become co-education schools. Separate schools for boys and girls are running at 39 places at the district and block level. The schools with better infrastructure will be run as co-education schools from class 1 to 10. In others, classes of 1st and 12th will be started. Where there are more admissions, classes of arts, medical and non-medical will be run.
