Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said that the development of 77 eco tourism sites in Himachal Pradesh will give new experiences to tourists. The new eco tourism policy will generate a revenue of Rs 200 crore for the government in five years. These tourism sites are being developed in Shimla, Kullu, Mandi, Bilaspur, Rampur, Solan, Nahan, Hamirpur, Nalagarh, Dharamshala, Palampur, Chamba, Dalhousie, Nurpur and Reckong Peo. Of these, eco-tourism operators have been selected for Potter Hill, Shoghi in Shimla, Solang Nala in Kullu and Kasol in Parvati Valley. The remaining sites are being developed in a phased manner. Tourists will be able to enjoy eco-friendly activities like trekking, bird watching, forest camping, nature walk, home stay here.
In a statement issued, Sukhu said that Himachal Pradesh has been a favorite destination for nature lovers due to snow-clad hills, dense forests, clear rivers and rich biodiversity. Eco-tourism means traveling to natural places without harming the environment. Himachal Pradesh’s eco-tourism policy is based on these rules, which will ensure the conservation of both tourism and nature. The CM said that in the year 2024, 1.81 crore tourists came to Himachal Pradesh, including 82 thousand foreign tourists. These have registered an increase of 13.24 percent as compared to last year. Tourism contributes 7.78 percent to the state’s gross state domestic product.
Sukhu said that local youth are being trained as nature guides and multipurpose workers. So far, more than 70 guides and 135 multipurpose workers have been trained by the Himachal Pradesh Eco-Tourism Society. The government has made eco-tourism services available online. Booking of more than 100 forest rest houses and camping sites can now be done through the website of Himachal Pradesh Eco-Tourism Society. More than 245 trekking routes have been listed. A mobile app is also being developed to guide tourists. Eco-tourism has already been approved in forest divisions like Shimla, Palampur, Kullu, Seraj and Mandi.
