Himachal: Bill introduced to stop pension of disqualified MLAs in assembly

Shimla: In Himachal Pradesh, preparations are being made to stop the pension of former MLAs declared disqualified under the 10th Schedule of the Constitution. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu on Tuesday proposed an amendment to the Legislative Assembly Members Allowances and Pension Act 1971 in the House regarding changing parties. The bill proposes that disqualified MLAs.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu on Tuesday proposed an amendment to the Legislative Assembly Members Allowances and Pension Act 1971 in the House regarding changing parties.

The bill proposes that disqualified MLAs of the assembly would not be entitled for the pension.

If the bill is approved by the Governor, it will take the form of law. After this, the pension of former MLA Chaitanya Sharma from Gagret and former MLA Devendra Kumar Bhutto from Kutlehar will be stopped. After being deprived of the right to pension, the amount taken by them till now will also be recovered. The pension of this term of MLA Sudhir Sharma from Dharamshala, Indra Dutt Lakhanpal from Barsar, former MLA Rajendra Rana from Sujanpur and Ravi Thakur from Lahaul Spiti will also be stopped.

According to the proposed bill, those who have been declared ineligible as per the 10th Schedule of the Constitution are not entitled to get the pension. The amount for the tenure of the 14th Legislative Assembly (December 2022 to February 2024) will be recovered from them. This will be the first such law in the country to stop the pension of disqualified MLAs.
