Shimla, May 5: The Himachal Pradesh Cabinet meeting will be held today and tomorrow under the chairmanship of CM Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu. Important decisions will be taken after discussing many topics in this 2-day meeting. For the first time in the state, a cabinet meeting has been called for two consecutive days.
There will be a discussion in the cabinet about increasing the retirement age of government employees from 58 to 59 years. On the recommendation of the cabinet subcommittee formed to increase the income resources and improve the economic condition, the retirement age of employees can be increased by 1 year. By doing this, the government can postpone the pension liability of about Rs 3000 crore for 1 year.
If the state government increases the retirement age, it is sure to hit the unemployed. In such a situation, the government will take a decision on this after a detailed discussion in the cabinet. The former Virbhadra government had also done this once during the economic crisis. This will not end the liabilities of the employees, but it can be postponed for one year.
The government may increase the retirement age by one year
If the government does not make the retirement age 59 years, then a decision can be taken to retire the employees of the education department on March 31. Similarly, there can be a discussion in the cabinet about stopping 40 per cent commutation.
To avoid a financial crisis, the Cabinet Sub Committee has suggested stopping the 40 per cent commutation given at the time of retirement. If this is done, then the 40 per cent amount that the employees get as a pension on retirement will not be taken in advance. A decision on this too is to be taken after discussion in the Cabinet.
Decision will be taken on probationary or trainee policy instead of a contract
There is also going to be a discussion about new jobs in the cabinet meeting. The state government has stopped recruitment under the contract policy of 2003. Now the government is considering recruiting probationers or trainees.
Under this policy, there is a plan to take the services of people who have passed the commission for five years as probationers or trainees. During this period, the employees will be given a nominal salary. Just like the contract employees were also given a nominal salary during the contract period.
Application fees for jobs may be fixed
The fees for applications sought by the State Selection Commission for various posts can also be decided in the cabinet. There will be a discussion in the cabinet about this first, after which a decision will be taken.
There can be a discussion on compassionate employment
There is a possibility of discussion in the cabinet regarding settling the pending cases of compassionate employment in Himachal in one go, because CM Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu had also assured in the assembly session that all the cases of compassionate employment will be settled in one go.
