Himachal Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena has got a six-month extension. He was to retire on March 31. A dinner party was organized to bid him farewell.
Prabodh Saxena had sent a letter to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for an extension. Late in the evening, the proposal to give him a six-month extension has been approved from Delhi. Therefore, he will remain in the post for the next 6 months.
This decision of UPSC has caused anger among the senior bureaucrats of Himachal. This has dashed the hopes of the three most senior IAS to become the Chief Secretary. At present, three IAS Sanjay Gupta, KK Pant and Omkar Sharma, senior to Prabodh Saxena in the state, were considered to be in the race for Chief Secretary. At the same time, Prabodh Saxena was made the Chief Secretary of the state in December 2022 on the retirement of RD Dhiman.
